WIP Clock: YES IT'S DONE!!!

Do I need to say more?

I don't think so, yes I finally got over the whole clock mechanism issue, and well its now sitting on my desk ticking away. With having a closed back/lid you can barely hear it tick. It's a swell piece.

Also to note whilst I haven't gotten round to it my stores will be going on vacation till after Christmas, I just need to work on when I open it again. This is mainly down to being sucked into the world of www.projectforawesome.com seriously check it out it happens once a year over a period of 48hrs. It started today, and is for promoting charities, by taking over youtube!

but, I've hit a snag. I'm a little disheartened.

The mechanism I've got I've not only frelled up the back from attaching something to the wrong side, but I don't think the shaft length is going to work. Actually as I write this I’ve come up with the solution, but I just have to hear back from the company I got the original movement from.

So hopefully all is not lost. Moral of this story, never underestimate how thick card covered in fabric, and not just think it will be fine. Ah, well I do love a challenge.

WIP Day 11: The Structure

 

And it's cracking along rather nicely.

In fact shortly after I took this photo I had mounted the embroidery/clock face, so the exterior pieces are pretty much done. Now it's onto getting the interior sorted but I think I might stitch the outside together first. I can't decide what would be best. I'll figure that out during work....

WIP: Clock Face Done!

Yes the clock face done! And I can actually get on with the construction now. I can't wait to start I just need to make sure I have sharp enough knife blades, otherwise I'm going to venture out and nip down to the artshop.

On top of this today, and I'm feeling rather on the ball today, despite going to bed in the wee hours of the morning. I stitched 3 o'clock, tidied my room, put up a few christmas decorations to make it more well more inspirational to work at. Hey I know it's still November, but I purchased the cutest little china Reindeer from Paperchase, (I've yet to name him, any suggestions?) and started gift wrapping, though have run out of brown paper. Darn it! Yes, I actually got my Christmas shopping done. Beat that!

I am about to finish up my cuppa, then nip down into the kitchen to start cooking a stew type dish, and perhaps a fresh batch of scones. Then I'll be back upstairs stitching, I need to crack on with finishing up a few bits of stock to list. Before I can actually knuckle down and get cracking with the desk clock. 

Hope your having a productive day, and enjoying the fact the Christmas season is well and truely upon us. First time that I actually feel I want to get into the spirit of things. Even purchased crackers, and looking at board games. Who doesn't love a good board game on Christmas day?

And another mark on the clock face is done, and actually it took less time than I thought it would have done. Which is super as I'm chomping at the bit to get to the actual construction. The embroidery of course has been an utter pleasure to do but it's the shape of the clock that I can't wait to do!!!

Another hour is marked, and this has turned out even better than I could have imagined and I love it! Simply adore it from the colours to the style, from my choice of stitches.

Brief Post

You may or may not have noticed that I've changed the banner to my Etsy store? What I would love to know is what do you think of it? I am in the process now that I have a graphic's tablet of altering various web graphics.

Would love to know what people think of it? Or suggestions? If you were wanting to know however what my last one was like, look at my current blog heading.

WIP Desk Clock - Stitching under way

This little birdie will be at 12 o'clock

There is of course something really satisfying about getting back to doing more detailed embroidery as well as something that is potentially going to be a bit more challenging. That is the new desk clock I am now working on. The face of which will be embroidered and the rest of it will be plain the actual shape will be of course different from the last one and will even have a covered back lid...more on that later as and when I get to the construction part. Which won't be for a bit.

This will be at the centre of the clock.

It feels good to be stitching something a little more challenging again and this clock I think will be, though as I write that not sure it will be. Will see though the actual cutting of the card to the correct sizes tends to be the trickest aspect the stitching part is a doddle. Anyway still sometime till I get to that part but it seems to be going ok so far, will post larger images of the centre of the clock which I completed this morning.

Other things a foot going to be making a batch of 'Tea Bags' this week so they will be up soon, just need to cut out the fabric and well make them.....but shouldn't take all that long.

Also back to doing a spot of baking which has been rather nice to do considering the weather is so shocking awful today, what did I bake a Gooey Treacle Sponge, not something I used to like but this is to die for. Especially if you team it with a fresh pot of tea. Highly recommend the recipe someone linked it on Twitter and so had to try it out, doesn't take a lot of effort or a lot of ingrediants and most of them I had knocking about. Also have some bread raising in the kitchen so I'll be popping that in the oven shortly. Before I start to snuggle down on the sofa and drool over Chris Pine. Yes I have my copy of Star Trek, god I loved that film. I was going to do a lot more stitching today, but you know what I don't feel guilty it's a nice to just potter about and pick up and put down stuff. In between drinking lots of tea!!!

Insulting Tissue Holders

So I've been stitching again. Little and often for me seems to be the key for me then I don't get so bogged down on the issue of not making anything, then if I do and it doesn't go well. (I have a box of stuff gone wrong) I don't feel so fed up.

This is what I stitched last night, then made up this morning whilst it was sunny, it's 4pm now and turning darker. Did I ever say I loved winter? I was born in the spring but I love winter more, I think it's owing to the love of being able to snuggle up with a good book and a mug of tea and not move. Okay perhaps that is something you don't have to limit it to winter, but it does seem more apt for this season than say summer.

Opps now I've gone and sidetracked, what was I talking about? Oh what I've been making, a handful of tissue holders, one carrying on the Onomatopoeia Collection this time using a different coloured thread, linen and liberty tana lawn. The others which are new are two somewhat playfully insulting tissue holders. The Insulting Tissue Holders come in snot and drip, and also working on the idea of some others, but my mind has gone a little blank.

Other than that I'm about to go and work on the basic maths for constructing my next clock, with the sale of the toadstool and flowers clock I feel the desire to make something new. The scale of this new clock will be much smaller, based on the size of the clock movement I purchased, and because I think it would be nice. If I like the style I'll make more at this size and have the larger scale as a one off for commissions only. Though whether or not I would make another one remains to be seen, though I would like one for myself. Only when I have my own place.

I like this version, its not totally different from the last one I made, but I altered my technique added another press stud, and changed which order I worked things in. Thus making it in my opinion neater, and for me personally easier to make.

Now I can't decide whether or not to offer this style in my shop? I have a large selection of Tana Lawn now, so I could offer several styles....I don't know.

Anyway, I like mine. Never really made one for myself, so this is rather nice.

Hmm, I think I need to do some pondering on what to do about making new stock.

Sew tidings

Good evening fellow crafter's! It feels as though I've not really written a decent blog post for an age. SO I thought I would correct this tonight.


I've been stitching lately, not a great deal, but a little bit in the evenings, and I'm getting back into the rhythm of doing it and enjoying it immensely I like stitching at night time, and I'm not alone in this. It's relaxing, you don't get disturbed, it's just utterly bliss!


On top of stitching I've also been reading, and a lot too. I'm going through a classic book stage. I love it! It all came about from having a sudden urge to read the Thirty Nine Steps, it was the cover that drew me to it, then from there that lead me to Greenmantle. Which if you weren't aware by the same author and involves Richard Hanney from the Thirty Nine Steps. From there it lead me to The Man who was Thursday. Again by the same publisher and the covers are pretty awesome. From there I purchased, Round the World in Eighty Days, The Great Gatsby, and Journey to the Centre of the Earth.


I've even started a little note book with a list of books I've read, and a list of books to read. All published with Penguin. Why? Because I love their covers, the prices and the website is awesome. I recommend! There classics, which have the plain coloured covers, and printed on recycled paper are a mere £2.50 each! Bargain, and the colours are wicked.


Before I forget this is what I was stitching! A little coin purse, using up the last of these type of coin purse frame, and also using my old Peacock Feather design. Stitched entirely by hand, no sewing machine was used. Which meant I could stitch late at night without waking anyone.

Yes, it’s that time again where I clear out my stash of fabrics, and yet more silk. I am adding to my supplies section of my Etsy store, a variety of colours and styles of silk, including also a stash of silk threads.

There appears to be quite a lot of pink...

So if you are after some rather decent sized off cuts of silk, for adding to quilts, or for small projects, then why not check it out. Once they are gone though, that will be it till I build up another stash.

All sizes are approximate and based on the smallest sizes, though some might have extra bits attached, that I have not added to the measurements, owing to how the fabric has been cut.
